Teachable pricing 2026: $29 a month, plus a 7.5% catch
Teachable costs $29-$139/mo billed annually, but Starter takes 7.5% of every sale. Above about $533/mo in sales, Builder at $69 is the cheaper plan.
Teachable costs $29 to $139 a month on annual billing, or $39 to $189 a month if you pay month to month. The cheapest plan, Starter, also takes a 7.5% transaction fee on every sale. Builder, at $69/mo annual, takes 0%. Once you sell more than about $533 a month, Builder is the cheaper plan, and the gap grows with every sale after that.
That fee is the whole story of Teachable’s pricing. The sticker price tells you what you pay with zero sales; the fee tells you what you pay once the course works.
All pricing below comes from each platform’s listed plans; verify current pricing on the vendor’s site before you commit.
Teachable’s plans, tier by tier
| Plan | Annual billing | Monthly billing | Per year (annual) | Per year (monthly) | Transaction fee | What the tier adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $29/mo | $39/mo | $348 | $468 | 7.5% | 5 products, 1 admin |
| Builder | $69/mo | $89/mo | $828 | $1,068 | 0% | Up to 10 products |
| Growth | $139/mo | $189/mo | $1,668 | $2,268 | 0% | 50 products, 5 admins |
There is no free plan (Teachable dropped it in its 2025 restructure) and the free trial is 7 days, shorter than most of the category. Teachable’s prices were last checked against its pricing page on 2026-10-08.
Annual billing saves $120 a year on Starter (about 26%), $240 on Builder (about 22%) and $600 on Growth (about 26%). Useful, but on Starter the billing toggle matters far less than the fee.
Where Builder becomes cheaper than Starter
Builder costs $40 a month more than Starter on annual billing. Starter’s 7.5% fee eats that $40 once your sales pass about $533 a month (roughly $6,400 a year). On monthly billing the gap is $50, so the crossover sits at about $667 a month in sales (roughly $8,000 a year).
To put that in course terms: at $533 a month, you are selling about two $250 courses, or eleven $49 ones. That is not a big business. Most creators who are actually selling clear it within a few months.
Here is the total monthly bill at four sales levels, platform fee plus Teachable’s transaction fee:
| Monthly sales | 7.5% fee | Starter (annual) | Starter (monthly) | Builder (annual) | Builder (monthly) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $500 | $37.50 | $66.50 | $76.50 | $69 | $89 |
| $1,000 | $75 | $104 | $114 | $69 | $89 |
| $3,000 | $225 | $254 | $264 | $69 | $89 |
| $5,000 | $375 | $404 | $414 | $69 | $89 |
At $500 a month, Starter still wins, but only by $2.50 on annual billing. At $1,000, Builder annual is $35 a month cheaper. At $5,000, Starter costs $335 a month more than Builder, and the fee alone adds up to $4,500 a year. That is more than five years of Builder at the annual rate.
One more crossover worth knowing: Starter paid monthly loses even to Builder paid annually once you sell about $400 a month. If you are on Starter month to month and selling steadily, you are almost certainly overpaying.
These totals leave out payment processing (the card fee your processor charges on each sale). Every platform in this post has some form of it, and our Teachable record does not list Teachable’s processing rate, so it is excluded everywhere to keep the comparison fair.
What each tier actually gets you
Starter gives you 5 products and 1 admin, with Teachable’s course builder, its integrated payments and the 7.5% fee. It is a sensible place to build your first course and test whether anyone buys. It is a bad place to stay.
Builder removes the fee and raises the cap to 10 products. For a solo creator with a handful of courses, a coaching offer and a bundle or two, this is the tier the product is built around.
Growth is about volume, not fees: 50 products and 5 admins. Builder and Growth both charge 0%, so the only reason to move up is that you have outgrown 10 products or need more people in the account. That jump costs $840 a year more on annual billing.
How Teachable compares on cost
Teachable’s closest competitors all handle fees differently, which is why comparing entry prices alone gets the answer wrong. Here is each at $1,000 and $3,000 a month in sales, annual billing where offered, platform fees only:
| Platform and plan | Listed price | Platform fee | Total at $1,000/mo | Total at $3,000/mo | G2 rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Teachable Starter | $29/mo | 7.5% | $104 | $254 | 4.2 |
| Teachable Builder | $69/mo | 0% | $69 | $69 | 4.2 |
| Thinkific Basic, Thinkific Payments | $36/mo | 0% | $36 | $36 | 4.5 |
| Thinkific Basic, own Stripe/PayPal | $36/mo | 5% | $86 | $186 | 4.5 |
| Podia Mover | $42/mo | 5% | $92 | $192 | 4.8 |
| Podia Shaker | $84/mo | 0% | $84 | $84 | 4.8 |
| Kajabi Basic | $143/mo | 0% | $143 | $143 | 4.6 |
A few things stand out.
Thinkific is cheaper if you use its own payments. Thinkific Basic charges no platform fee through Thinkific Payments, so at $36/mo annual it undercuts Teachable Builder by $396 a year at any sales level. The catch is the gateway surcharge: connect your own Stripe or PayPal account and Basic adds 5% (Start adds 2%, Grow 1%, waived above $1M a year in sales). If you need your own gateway, Thinkific Basic at $3,000 a month costs $186, more than Teachable Builder. Thinkific vs Teachable goes through the features side by side.
Podia has the same trap with a smaller fee. Mover charges 5% and Shaker, at $84/mo, charges 0%. Mover crosses over to Shaker at $840 a month in sales. Teachable Starter and Podia Mover cost the same at $520 a month in sales; above that, Starter’s higher fee makes it the more expensive of the two. Podia also lists no annual discount, so its prices are the same whichever way you pay.
Kajabi costs more and does more. Kajabi Basic is $143/mo annual ($179 monthly), which is $888 a year more than Teachable Builder on annual billing. Kajabi takes no revenue share, and the extra money buys built-in email marketing and funnels, the area our Teachable record lists as its weakest. If you would otherwise pay for a separate email tool, the gap narrows. Teachable vs Kajabi covers that trade in detail.
A data note: Teachable’s prices are verified against its pricing page; the Thinkific, Podia and Kajabi figures above are the listed prices in our records, without a recent verification date. Check those three on their own sites before you decide on cost alone.
Teachable also has the lowest G2 rating of the four, at 4.2, against 4.5 for Thinkific, 4.6 for Kajabi and 4.8 for Podia.
Who should pay for which tier
Pay for Starter while you build and test your first course. At $348 a year on annual billing it is cheap to hold, and the 7.5% fee costs little while sales are near zero. Set a rule now: when monthly sales pass about $533, move to Builder.
Pay for Builder annually if you are already selling. At $828 a year it is the plan most working Teachable creators should be on, and it removes the single biggest cost on the platform.
Pay for Growth only when you hit Builder’s 10-product cap or need 5 admins. It adds nothing on fees.
Pay monthly only to get past the 7-day trial while you decide. Monthly billing costs $10 to $50 a month more, depending on the tier, for the same product.
Look elsewhere if you want the lowest fixed cost with no fee (Thinkific Basic on Thinkific Payments, at $36/mo listed), or one tool that also handles email and funnels (Kajabi, at a much higher price).
The verdict
Teachable costs $348 a year on Starter, but that number only holds while you sell almost nothing. Past about $533 a month in sales, Builder at $828 a year is cheaper, and at $5,000 a month Starter’s fee adds $4,500 a year to your bill. The deciding question is not which plan looks cheapest, it is how much you expect to sell.
